Using Acudetox to Reduce Stress in College Students: A Brief Intervention Strategy for College Counselors Lis Tomlin, LMHC
2
Purpose of Study Examine the effect of a one-time, brief intervention of NADA on overall perceived stress in college students
3
Research Design Quantitative Quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest
Within subjects design, no control group One time NADA treatment of 45 minutes Multivariate repeated measures ANOVA Research Design
4
Variables IV= 1 time, 45 minute NADA treatment
DVs = nominal scores on The Acudetox Record (ATR), collected three times for each participant Pretest Posttest Follow-Up Setting: rural, public university in southwest state

The Acupuncture Treatment Record
Amended from The Acupuncture Treatment Record, developed by Dr. Libby Stuyt in 2001 14 symptoms The Acudetox Treatment Record (ATR) Cronbach’s alpha ranged from = High Internal Consistency 10 symptoms Sleeping Eating Headache Depression Anxiety Anger Concentration Energy Emotional stress Physical stress The Acupuncture Treatment Record

Results ANOVA indicated a statistically significant effect, Wilks’s Λ = .298, F(2, 21) = , p < .001, multivariate η2= .702. Pairwise comparisons reveal that there statistically significant differences among the pairs. The ATR Pretest differs significantly from both the ATR Posttest (M=7.087, SD=1.123, p<.001), and ATR Follow-up (M=8.217, SD=1.253, p<.001). There are no significant differences between the ATR Posttest and the ATR Follow-up.

The bottom line… These results suggest that there is a relationship between the perceived levels of stress and the brief, one-time NADA acudetox intervention. Students endorsed a reduction in perceived stress symptoms after their acudetox intervention and even a few days later.
