Kohl’s operates stores in three formats: prototype (88,000 gross square feet of retail space, which serve trade areas of 150, ,000 people); small (55,000-68,000 gross square feet, which serve trade areas of 100, ,000); and urban (125,000 gross square feet, which serve trade areas of up to 500,000; currently in New York and Chicago).
