Modeling Heat Flow for a Lava Dike Intrusion Made by Ralph Till
I wanted to model a realistic earth science situation based on the code from the 2D heat equation lab. What I attempted to model is a hot lava dike penetrating into rock and then cooling, heating the surrounding rock the whole time In my code, I used the discretized form of the 2D heat equation. This allows some degree of reality in the simulation. Step 1: Lava intrudes into the rock in the form of a dike. Step 2: Lava continues to flowfor some time, increasing in temperature. Step 3: The lava flow stops and everything begins to cool. Step 4: Eventually, the temperature will be even everywhere.
