Presentation on theme: "Year 11 Assembly 11th October.."— Presentation transcript:

1 Year 11 Assembly 11th October.

2 The good news: We are completing the last unit to study, Language Paper 2 and Literature Paper 2 Poetry. By Christmas we will have completed it and begin reviewing all texts for Literature and developing Language skills for both Language papers.

3 What is the challenge now?
develop personal interpretations and arguments INDEPENDENTLY that show how you have engaged with texts. Explore texts INDEPENDENTLY, explain WHY a writer has presented these ideas in one form (for example drama) rather than another (for example, poetry). Use the VISIT approach to poems. Mastering Paper 2 Language Returning to all texts to revise and develop essay skills and building up your points of view into clearly structured arguments. What can you do to help yourself at home? Complete tasks on writing for Paper 1 and 2 on Doddle Complete modules on the PIXL Independence tasks on Show My Homework.

4 What is the challenge now?
Understanding the grade boundaries – they are narrow – 6% gap between each Language grade. Gap between 4-7 in Language is 25%; 9 % gap between each Literature grade. Gap between 4-7 in Literature is 36% What does this mean? That just a few marks lost on each paper may drop your grade, so you need to over-reach yourself to reach your target. What can you do? Ensure that you pay attention to all feedback and complete DITtasks thoughtfully. ASK challenging questions about subject content in class. Ask for extra essays to practice on at home. Test and challenge yourself with the Independence booklets.

5 Mock Exams in November We will do two mock exams: Language Paper 2:
1 hour 45 minutes. Non Fiction texts, Writer’s Attitudes and Perspectives. Practice the skills of inference, synthesis, comparison, and analysing writers’ methods. Literature paper 2(Sections B and C): 1 hour 40 minutes. Practice the skills of inference, writer’s attitudes, methods, comparison.

6 What can you do? Prepare for Poetry by creating mind maps on the themes of Power and Conflict. Create revision cards for each poem with: a summary of the poem, an overview of the poet’s ideas and how these link to the themes of power or conflict, methods (language and structure) and key images quotes to learn and analyse. No more than 2-3 quotes per poem Complete Independence booklets.

7

8 What can you do for Language Paper 2
Test your own reading skills. How much do you retain after reading a text? Can you summarise it well? Practice highlighting writer’s opinions and attitudes and being able to INFER. Longer term: Create character and theme quote cards for each text

9

10 What can you do? Review reading strategies
Create mind maps on characters and themes Re-read all exam texts and your notes on them Plan what texts you will focus on each holiday starting NOW.
