“This is Maria, she is a Family Care Specialist and she is here to prepare you for the next steps and final decisions that need to be made.”

Very Common Question from Family…. Well What’s Next? What decisions? Very Common Response from Staff…. Organ Donation!!

“She will be able to address all the next steps and answer all your questions.” We still need to assess their understanding and acceptance of the BD, if the family has hope and is not accepting of the BD a pre mention of donation is inappropriate.

If Donation has already been mentioned “I encourage you to hear the information before making any final decisions” As in any medical or end of life decision the family deserves to receive information before finalizing that decision.

Be aware of where you stand with Donation. Families will need to make their decision in regards to donation – we are their to support and assist with whatever choice they make.
