1 WARM-UP 2/3/15 Sodium chloride (NaCl) is mixed with lead (II) nitrate (Pb(NO3)2 . What type of reaction is this? What products would you expect? Follow the three steps below to help you out. Separate the compound into its elements or groups. Remember to write down the charges when they become ions. Pair them up and balance charges.

2 To predict the products of different chemical reactions in lab.
2/3/15 Objective To predict the products of different chemical reactions in lab. 2/3/15 Agenda Warm-Up Finish Lab Lab Debrief

3 WARM-UP 2/3/15 Sodium chloride (NaCl) is mixed with lead (II) nitrate (Pb(NO3)2 . What type of reaction is this? What products would you expect? Follow the three steps below to help you out. Separate the compound into its elements or groups. Remember to write down the charges when they become ions. Pair them up and balance charges.

4 Not finished? Experiments 1 and 2 Make up during lunch.
Experiment 1 analysis - Manganese dioxide (MnO2) is a catalyst. Experiment 2 – No more AgNO3 – Get results from classmates.

5 For Chemicals, write down the following:
Manganese dioxide (MnO2) Copper (Cu) 3% hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) 0.10 M sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) 0.10 M lead (II) nitrate Pb(NO3)2 0.10 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) 0.10 M silver nitrate (AgNO3) 0.10 M calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) 0.10 M copper(II) nitrate Cu(NO3)2 0.10 M sodium chloride (NaCl)

6 Experiment 3 1)Of the chemicals listed with 0.1M, pick two.
0.10 M calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) 0.10 M copper(II) nitrate Cu(NO3)2 0.10 M sodium chloride (NaCl) 0.10 M sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) 0.10 M lead (II) nitrate Pb(NO3)2 0.10 M sodium hydroxide (NaOH) 2) Place 3 mL of each of the two that you chose into a test tube (one pipette = ~1mL). Swirl. Record observations. 3) Repeat four more times (different pairs) for a total of five pairs.

7 Experiment 3 – Analysis What products would you have expected to form for each reaction? Write down the formula and names. Which reactions formed an observable product? Describe what the product looked like.

8 Clean Up Please make sure all the test tubes that you used are rinsed out. All lab packets go back to the front of the room.

9 2/3/15 Homework Continue from 1/28/15 classwork Pg. 331 #14 Pg. 332 #15 Pg. 334 #17b Pg. 335 #19a Pg. 337 #20b Read the sections before to help you.
