Elicit & Illicit Elicit (verb)
to bring forth; to arrive at or deduce by reasoning Ex: The nosy mother tried to elicit information from her young daughter about how her grades in school were.

Illicit (adj.) prohibited by law or custom; unlawful Ex: The girl told her mother not to worry. She was doing her homework and never cheated or did anything illicit.

Complement & Compliment
Complement: (noun) something that completes, enhances or brings to perfection Ex: The waiter suggested that we order wine to complement the flavor of our dinners.

Compliment (noun): praise or flattery
Ex: I complimented by best friend on how his outfit looked today.

Emigrate & Immigrate Emigrate (verb): to leave one country or region to settle in another; or to migrate away from ones native place. Ex: The Polenski family emigrated from Poland in 1943.

Immigrate (verb): to come to a country of which one is not a native, usually for permanent residence Ex: The Polenskis immigrated to the United States in 1943.
