3. All About the Amazons
The Amazons were a tribe of only women who were fierce warriors.
Lived in Themiscyra near the Black Sea, which is now modern-day Turkey.
Well-known for hating men, and were called “slayers of men” by Herodotus.
They were the daughters of Ares and Harmonia.
Copulated annually with a neighboring male-only tribe called the Gargareans.
They would only keep the female children while the male children were killed, taken back to their fathers tribe, or left to die in the forest from the elements.

4. Modern Examples There are several examples in today’s time such as:
The Amazon Rainforest and River located in South America
Received its name due to a conflict the spanish explorer/founder had with tribes of female warriors located there who reminded him of the Amazons in Greek Mythology.
The Company Amazon
Amazon was originally named “cadabra” as in “abracadabra,” but was soon changed as it was misheard as “cadaver”. The company was renamed after the Amazon River to suggest the scale of the company and because the website listings were alphabetically ordered back in the day.
