Narrative Fiction Unit

2 MOOD The feeling or atmosphere that the writer creates for the reader through descriptive words, the setting, figurative language, as well as through the sound and rhythm of the language used.

3 Examples of Mood A feeling of doom. A feeling of fear.
A feeling of pride. An atmosphere of chaos. An atomsphere of peace.

4 SUSPENSE The excitement or tension that readers feel as they become involved in a story and eager to know the outcome of the plot

5 FORESHADOWING A writer’s use of hints or clues to indicate events and situations that will occur later in a plot. Foreshadowing creates suspense, while preparing the reader for what is to come.

6 SETTING The time and place of the action of a story.
