1 THE EVALUATION

2 THE PLAN We have three lessons until Easter, so we are going to tackle each of the four evaluation questions in these lessons. LESSON ONE: What have you learned from your audience feedback? LESSON TWO: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? LESSON THREE: How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

3 TODAY QUESTION ONE: What have you learned from your audience feedback?
1. Carousel activity – Each computer has each student’s print work displayed You have 5 minutes to add comments to the A3 sheet When the box is full, add your ideas to the back of the sheet Everyone will move on and repeat 3 more times (total of 20 minutes) 2. Videos – Pairs watch and make feedback notes for each video

4 QUESTION ONE: What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Go to your computer with your feedback sheets. Start to summarise/compile the results into a script for a voiceover or for a written answer (with photos). Identify what part of the video/stills you are going to use and place them onto a new Final Cut project/Word document

5 THE EVALUATION Question #2

6 In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

7 CODES AND CONVENTIONS

8 STEP ONE IDENTIFY THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF YOUR GENRE:
FOR EXAMPLE – NEO NOIR Chiaroscuro lighting - On the black & white film stock, this high-contrast lighting produced brilliant focus points and deep shadows. Bars, Diagonals & Frames within frames - The chiaroscuro lighting techniques were often used with objects such as railings, banisters, blinds, doorways, or other objects to present the illusion of bars, like those of a jail cell, across the characters, or frame the characters within a scene to create a sense of confinement or entrapment. Long tracking shots & Deep Focus - Orson Welles and his cinematographer Gregg Toland perfected some techniques that became characteristic of film noir, including deep focus (closed aperture shots that allowed floors and ceilings to be in the frame) and long tracking shots, such as the opening scene from Touch of Evil (1958). These techniques often required modifications to camera, lenses, and other equipment. ETC…

9 STEP ONE IDENTIFY THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF YOUR GENRE:
FOR EXAMPLE – FASHION MAGAZINE Youthfulness High key lighting Lures Celebrity synergy Etc.

10 STEP TWO IDENTIFY HOW YOUR PRODUCT USES THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS. EVALUATE HOW WELL YOU HAVE DONE THIS AND WHY YOU HAVE.

11 STEP THREE IDENTIFY HOW YOUR PRODUCT DEVELOPS OR CHALLENGES THE CODES AND CONVENTIONS OF YOUR GENRE.

12 STEP FOUR COMPARE TO REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS

13 What have you learned from your audience feedback
What have you learned from your audience feedback? In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? How did you use media technology?

14 LAST TWO QUESTIONS. LAST LESSON
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

15 How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
What was the purpose of all three products? EG: increase brand awareness; increase brand equity; to create intrigue etc… What is the purpose of each genre? How do they differ and how are they similar? Are they all equally important in the promotion of a product? Which of your products combined well and why? Continuity/house style – refer to as many elements as possible including lighting, costume, mode of address, representation, framing etc. Consumption – put yourself in the shoes of a consumer who has consumed at least two of the three products – would the link be obvious? What pleasures are apparent in all three?

16 How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Research Editing – voice over (sound recording) Questionnaire software Planning - Test shots (lighting, camera set up, editing) Evaluation I told you it is important to use technologies in the evaluation! Time lapse; editing; audience feedback
