Recap Question 17 – 21 (in class) Homework Understand what mitosis And meiosis means Next Lessons Meiosis Plant reproduction Bricks Biology Volume 1 Chapter 5 Plants.

2 Chromosomes We said we get half of the genes from mother and half from fathers. What does this mean? Chromosomes.

4 Keywords Cell division - Meiosis Gametes ( sex cells) - Mitosis Zygote
Haploid (1n) Diploid (2n) Chromosomes

5 Cell division Cell division Mitosis = Diploid (2n) =
Meiosis: produces cells which have half the usual number of chromosomes. Mitosis: makes a new set of chromomes so that each new cell gets its own exact copy of the information. Cell division Mitosis = The haploid number is the number of chromosomes within thenucleus of a cell that constitutes one complete chromosomal set.  A diploid cell is a cell that contains two sets of chromosomes. The diploid number of a cell is the number of chromosomes in the cell. This number is commonly abbreviated as 2n, where n stands for the number of chromosomes. For humans this equation would be 2n=46. Humans have 2 sets of 23 chromosomes for a total of 46 chromosomes: Diploid (2n) = In Humans 2n = 2x23 = 46)

6 Meiosis: produces cells which have half the usual number of chromosomes.
Haploid (n) = Our sex cells (sperm and eggs) are haploid cells that are produced by meiosis. In Humans sex cells (n = 1x23 = 23)
