Habit #6 – Synergize (Part 2)
2
What Does This Mean? “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” - Helen Keller
3
1 +1 = 3 or more What is Synergy?
Synergy is achieved when two or more people work together to create a better solution than either could alone. 1 +1 = 3 or more
4
Why Geese Fly in a “V” Formation
Running Time: 3:50
5
An Example of Synergy Geese fly in a V-formation when traveling south for the winter. Geese can fly 71% farther in this formation than alone. When a goose flaps its wings, it creates an updraft for the goose that follows As the lead goose gets tired, he will rotate to the back of the V and allow another goose to take the lead position. The geese honk to encourage one another. When one of the geese gets sick or wounded, two geese will follow it down to protect it until it gets better or dies.
6
Quick-Write In your notes, take five minutes to write about the lessons that can be learned from the geese about synergy. Be prepared to share out with the class!
7
Another Example of Synergy
One 2” x 4” beam can support 607 pounds. So two 2” x 4” beams should be able to support 1,214 pounds….right? Actually, two 2” x 4” beams can support 1, 821 pounds - Nailed together they can support 4,878 pounds Three 2” x 4” beams nailed together can support 8,481 pounds!

Running Time: 2:30
9
1 +1 = 1 ½ Compromise vs. Synergy
Compromise is achieved when two or more people get some of what they want but not everything. 1 +1 = 1 ½
10
Cooperation vs. Synergy
Cooperation is achieved when two or more people work together to achieve twice as much. 1 +1 = 2
