Ranger Smith (RS): I didn't think I'd ever see you again
Ranger Smith (RS): I didn't think I'd ever see you again. I don't know what I was thinking. I think you're perfect. I think any guy in the world would be lucky just to stand next to you. Rachel (R): You really mean that? RS:Of course I do. It's just, when I lost Jellystone, I felt like such a failure. But losing you has felt much, much worse. I'm like... I'm like a genus without a phylum. R: That's the sweetest thing anyone's ever said to me. - So, um, we're still here. - Mm-hm. Oh, right. Ahem. So, what are you doing here? - Come on, I'll show you. - Okay. I was reviewing the documentary footage from Boo Boo's camera and I saw this. Yogi:Oh, my. I see it. I have a bald spot back there! R: I'm not talking about you, Yogi. I'm talking about this. Yogi:Yeah, it's my pet turtle. He hangs out at the cave all the time. You know they don't come out of that shell? I tried one time to see what one would look like without it. But, nope, they're sewn in. R:This is no regular turtle. See the bulging frog-like eyes and the really wide mouth? A frog-mouthed turtle called Rafetus swinhoei. They have been extinct for 100 years, but apparently one still exists and he lives in there. But they won't let me through the gates to go find him. RS:But if Jellystone has an endangered species living in it, then... It has to be protected as a park. That's the law. That turtle can save this park. Yogi: Now I feel kinda bad about using him as a foot stool.

Kingdoms and Domains
5
What are the differences between Domains and Kingdoms?
Essential Question What are the differences between Domains and Kingdoms?
6
SIX KINGDOMS: Archaebacteria: “Ancient” bacterium that may be from 1st life Unicellular Found in extreme environments (like thermal vents) Eubacteria: “True” unicellular “prokaryotes” Modern bacteria Chemical makeup different from Archaebacteria
7
SIX KINGDOMS: 3. Protista: eukaryote “odds & ends”
include all microscopic organisms that are not in the other five kingdoms Fungi: Decomposing “heterotrophs” Consume food Were classified as plants Cannot make their own food
8
5. Plantae: Stationary “autotrophs”
Make own food! 2nd largest kingdom with > 250,000 species Animalia: Eukaryotic multicellular heterotrophs Largest kingdom with > 1 million known named species 90% are insects

Click below to watch a short video on kingdoms.
After you watch the video, title a piece of notebook paper “SIX KINGDOMS QUIZ & FACTS” and take the quiz. Write the questions and the answer on your paper (not just the letter). Make sure to copy down the facts in between the questions as well. Turn this quiz paper into the basket now.
10
Domains Proposed in 1990 Examine RNA similiarities/differences
How long have organisms been evolving independently More inclusive and larger than kingdoms Three Domains!!!
11
Domains Archaea Bacteria Eukarya Corresponds to Kingdom Archaebacteria
Corresponds to Kingdom Eubacteria Eukarya Corresponds to the Kingdoms Protista, Fungi, Plantae & Animalia All organisms that have a nucleus
12
Write 2 higher level questions per page of notes in the left hand margin.
Summarize your notes in 3 sentences to answer the essential question (in your own words) on the last page. Turn these notes in to the basket.
