How cooperation can help
Growing interest in networks requiring multi-hop wireless transmissions such as mesh networks, sensor networks, or vehicular networks Multi-hop wireless transmission very inefficient due to poor design at PHY, Link and Network layers. Cooperative communications addresses the problem of exploring theoretical limits of multi-hop transmission and providing signal processing techniques to achieve them. Next generation cellular networks Use relays are part of the network infrastructure to increase service availabilty, by complementing shadowed links with street-level relays Wireless mesh networks Use cooperative relaying to provide efficient multi-hop wireless transmission Wireless network coding as an extension of cooperative relaying for multiple sources / destinations
