Chapter 13 Section 5 How does climate affect living things?
Objective: Identify ways in which plants and animals are affected by climate.
2
Biomes biome: a large region with a characteristic climate and certain kinds of living things Scientists identify a biome mainly by the major types of plants growing in the area. Because many animals eat only certain kinds of plants, each biome also has a particular group of animals and other organisms living there.
3
IDENTIFY: How do scientists identify a biome?
4
Climate and Vegetation
Climate affects the vegetation in an area. Vegetation refers to the plants in an area. Rainfall and temperature are the climate factors that most affect vegetation.
5
2. DEFINE: What is vegetation?
6
Climate and Animals Animals that eat certain plants can live only in climates where those plants grow. Other animals are directly affected by temperature. The body temperature of cold-blooded animals is about the same as the air temperature. The animals would die if the air temperature was too low.
7
3. NAME: What are two ways animals are affected by climate?
8
13-5 Classwork What is a biome?
