1 9 x 14 9 x 12 Calculate the value of the following: 1 9 × 5 =
Starter: Answer the questions below in your books Calculate the value of the following: 1 9 × 5 = (7 + 6) × 5 = (36 ÷ 4) × (17 – 7) = 9 × (18 ÷ 6) = 20 × 15 = 25 × 47 = 9 x 14 9 x 12

2 9 x 14 9 x 12 Mark your starter: 1 9 × 5 = 45 (7 + 6) × 5 = 65
Starter: Answer the questions below in your books Mark your starter: 1 9 × 5 = 45 (7 + 6) × 5 = 65 (36 ÷ 4) × (17 – 7) = 90 9 × (18 ÷ 6) = 27 20 × 15 = 300 25 × 47 = 1175 9 x 14 9 x 12

3 Understand and calculate factors and multiples of a number
3×4=12 Know the meaning of the words factor and multiple. Calculate different factors of the same number. Calculate different multiples of a number.

4 Factors are numbers that go into another number.
They are always integers (which is a mathematical word for whole numbers). You can think of them as the times tables which contain the final number.

6 So, if you were to ask, “What are the factors of 20
So, if you were to ask, “What are the factors of 20?” the answer would be 1, 2, 4, 5, 10, 20. This is because 1 × 20 = 20, 2 × 10 = 20 and 4 × 5 = 20. Alternatively, if you were to ask, “What are the multiples of 4?” then the answer would be 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, … and so on. That is because these numbers are in the four times table.

7 What are the multiples of 5 that are less than 100?
What are the multiples of 20 that are between 100 and 200? What are the multiples of 6 that are between 30 and 60? What are the factors of 24? What are the factors of 50? List the factors of 30 and then the factors of 54. Are there any factors that appear in both lists?

8 The answers are next…
