SCOPE OF THE SURVEY 1) Investigate use cases and requirements for license-exempt radio services in Internet of Things under 5G technology assumptions 2) Specifically addressing use cases requiring Ultra Reliability and Low Latency Communications (URLLC) 3) Specifically addressing use cases not solved by existing unlicensed technologies Definitions: 5G technology assumptions: state-of-the art radio technologies with high bitrate capability and high bandwidth efficiency, using advanced techniques such as OFDM and/or space diversity (MIMO) and with capabilities to address UR and LL scenarios. The technology may also offer simplified modes (non OFDM/MIMO) for low cost and/or low power consumption scenarios Timeframe: 2020 and beyond (5G timeframe) © ETSI All rights reserved

4 Background information/ Intended use
The survey has been designed by STF 537 (TC DECT) as part of the Use Case investigation STF537 has, within other objectives, the task of providing an analysis of Use Cases requiring license-exempt radio technologies in the IoT and other landscapes. The primary use of the survey is the identification of target use cases for refining the requirements of DECT-2020, a future radio technology under development by ETSI DECT-2020 will be an state of the art (5G) technology based on OFDM and MIMO intended to operate over the DECT and other parts of the spectrum , with co-existence with existing services. Compared to other license-exempt technologies, (I.e. WLANs) the technology will be focused on increased range, QoS, reduced latency and URLLC use cases Nevertheless, this survey is conceived as technology agnostic and the results will be available for any other ETSI technology. © ETSI All rights reserved

5 Target: license-exempt radio
The survey is specifically focused on license-exempt radio Definition: License-exempt radio: radio technologies where the user can own and operate radio devices without requesting individual license Also known (commonly): “unlicensed” radio· Several specific regulations (i.e.: ISM bands, technology specific bands, etc) In most cases (but not always) the user own and operates both radio terminations (i.e. base station and portable devices) In most cases (but not always) the equipment is used indoors or inside property of the user/”operator” By practical reasons, Extreme high frequency ( > 30MHz) and Infrared are out of scope This survey does not enter in the debate cellular vs. unlicensed This survey assumes as a fact that unlicensed radio exist and will continue to exist in 5G timeframe It is not the scope of this survey addressing “Cellular only “ paradigms Geographical scope: worldwide with some “European bias” Although the study is conceived as “worldwide, it has some “European bias” (due to the spectrum considerations) © ETSI All rights reserved
