Summary of School, District and State Data Trends
Although our school is showing improvement in mathematics achievement, we still lag behind district and state proficiency levels, respectively. Sharp, upward achievement trends are occurred in 6th and 8th grades in th grade math proficiency levels tend to be higher with a slight drop following in 8th grade.

And the Questions Are… Why does our mathematics
achievement appear to be leveling off instead of growing as the district and state? What caused drops and stagnation in math proficiency in 2010? Is it corrected now? Why is there a drop in math achievement after 7th grade? How did 6th and 8th grades achieve such gains in 2012?

Summary of Domain Trends & Questions
Algebra is the weakest domain among all the grades. Numbers and operations shows the most growth. Students are trending toward consistency with geometry and data analysis and probability. Why are students weaker in algebra when they are showing improvement in numbers and operations? Could it be the word problems requiring algebraic formulas? Are students becoming more successful in geometry because it is a “visual” and “hands-on” math concept? Could we review student proficiency in word problems from each domain?

Our proposed mathematics goal is to continue to raise stagnant math scores by focusing on the correlation between high needs groups and domains. Need to focus more on SIP math goal and related student learning problems… Change SIP goal? Current SIP Goal: Increase student proficiency in algebraic problem solving Need help from teachers to find the student learning problems...

It’s Your Turn!!! Help your Data Team evaluate proposed solutions by: Please visit the Media Center copy room to “play” with “hands-on” supplemental math curriculum manipulatives proposed for purchase and fill out a 5-minute feedback form! Attempt to find ways to integrate math vocabulary and problem solving concepts with other subject areas. Suggest ways that math teachers can teach “reading in the math context” to support word problem understanding. Volunteer to support our data team! We want and need your help!

It’s Still Your Turn!!! Even if math is not “your primary subject,” if you are certified and willing, sign up to participate in student tutoring broken down by domain! The Math Department will be breaking down their common assessment data differently by domain using pre-assessment, 2 formative assessments, and post-assessment for every unit. The Data Team wants to hear your ideas for increasing student math achievement and relevancy. Please offer your ideas and feedback to help us close the math achievement gap!
