Or have we allowed our service to become a mere ritual?

4. Worship in Spirit and Truth
God desires purity of our hearts and lives as we worship Him
Isa 1: Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil; (17) Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

God desires our hearts all the time; not only while we are assembled
Jer 7:9-10 Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not; (10) And come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, We are delivered to do all these abominations?

6. Worship in Spirit and Truth
We cannot live through the week giving no thought to God and expect Him to be delighted with our worship
We cannot live with bitterness in our hearts toward brethren and expect Him to be delighted with our worship
We must love, honor, and serve Him in all that we do

God does not desire mere rituals
God desires our love for Him
This love motivates total devotion to Him

8. Worship in Spirit and Truth
Jer 7: For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices: (23) But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

9. Worship in Spirit and Truth
There is more to serving God than prayer, study, and formal worship
God also desires that we show mercy and kindness and serve our fellow man
God desires our hearts at all times
