2 Teen Pregnancy Fact One in five sexually active female teenagers gets pregnant each year. Most teens think “It wont happen to me” 1 out of 3 teens become pregnant before they turn 20

Beliefs Reality Few teens want to be around a baby all the time. Teen Pregnancy adds stress to Teen relationships YES YOU CAN!!!! If I have a baby I will be the center of reality He won’t leave me if I'm pregnant I cant get pregnant the first time I have sex.

4 Being a Teen Parent. Teen parents must take on adult responsibilities.
Teen parents must make personal, social, and financial sacrifices. Teen parents have limited job opportunities but must care for the child. *****How was your Job Search this summer****

6 STD’s a Silent Epidemic
Called a silent Epidemic b/c no one wants to talk about them. Each year 19 million teens become infected with an STD. 25% of all new cases of STD’s occur between the ages of 19-25 Asymptomatic: Showing no signs of a disease or disorder even when the infection is present.

7 STD’s and Teens Being Sexually Active.
The following factors increase risk. Being Sexually Active. Having more than one sexual partner. Having a sexual partner who has had multiple partners. Using alcohol or drugs.

8 Females are at Higher Risk.
Females have a larger area of mucous membranes. Females receive a larger volume of potentially infected fluid. The Cervix is more susceptible to infection than the male reproductive organs.

9 Preventing STD’s Practice Abstinence Stay away from Alcohol and Drugs.
Respect yourself Learn the facts about STD’s and use them to make good decisions. Choose friends that influence you in positive ways. Be aware of your emotions.

11 How are STD’s Spread Sexual activity in which an uninfected body part comes in contact with fluids from an infected person. Direct contact with open sores. Mother to baby before, during birth or during breast feeding.

12 Some STD’s can Cause Permanente Damage.
Painful sores throughout ones life Lead to brain damage or cancer Unable to have children. Can even be fatal. Can be passed to offspring.

14 Being Responsible about STD’s
Seek medical help right away. Complete the full course of Meds. Have a follow-up testing done. Avoid all sexual activity while being treated. Notify all sexual partners.
