A place or object used for comparison to determine if something is moving
Stationary objects like trees and signs make the best reference points.

5. What is Happening?
There is a boat with passengers off the coast. A person on shore watches the boat. Who is moving?
How do you know who is moving?

6. Relative Motion Motion is relative depending on your situation.
Compared to a desk, I am not moving.
Compared to the Sun, I am moving.
Since I move with the Earth, it doesn’t seem like I am moving.

7. SI Units
Important to use appropriate units to measure distance/motion.
1000 millimeters = 1 meter
100 centimeters = 1 meter
1000 meters = 1 kilometer
