1
Identify the different elements that make up the following compound.
Bell Work: Identify the different elements that make up the following compound. Mg(NO3)2
2
The Atom Shuffle You will be given a card.
You will walk around (randomly) until the teacher calls out a chemical formula. You must form the compound with other classmates. (Look at each other’s cards.) The last group to “bond” loses.
3
Counting aToms with Coefficients
Coefficients apply to the entire compound. Multiply the coefficient and each subscript. Easy way = add up the atoms (like you were taught) and then multiple that number by the coefficient Coefficient
4
Counting aToms with Coefficients
5H2O Hydrogen = 2 Oxygen = 1 (2 + 1 = 3) ………now multiply by 5 15 Total Atoms
5
2K3PO4 16 Total Atoms Now you try… K = 3 P = 1 O = 4
(All that equals 8….8 x 2 = ) 16 Total Atoms
6
8 Total Atoms 2H2O2 Now you try… H = 2 O = 2
(All that equals 4….4 x 2 = ) 8 Total Atoms
7
9 Total Atoms 3CuCl2 Now you try… Copper = 1 Chlorine = 2
(All that equals 3…..3 x 3 = ) 9 Total Atoms
