Solutions and Solubility
2
Review from last class…
What is a solute? What is a solvent? What does soluble mean? For the following examples decide which is the solute and which is the solvent: Water and kool-aid powder Water and baking soda Food coloring and water Sulphur dioxide (gas) and rain- Acid Rain
3
Solutions Worksheet Finish the worksheet as partners (10 minutes)
Correct as a class

How can you tell if you have a liquid solution?

How can you tell if you have a liquid solution?
Write a summary in your notes in your own words The solvent is a liquid. The solute and solvent are evenly mixed. You cannot see the solute and solvent separately (appear as one). The mixture is transparent (you can see through it).
6
Review: Solutes and Solvents
Solutions are often liquid based A liquid solution always has at least one liquid The solute in a liquid solution can be any state of matter In the solution of liquids and solids or of liquids and gases, the solvent is ALWAYS the liquid

Solutes and Solvents Cont’d
REVISION**In solutions of liquid & liquid, we usually DO NOT name the solute and solvent** We can determine the solute and solvent of a liquid/liquid; solid/solid; gas/gas solution based on how much of each pure substance there is in the mixture The one with greater quantity is considered the solvent The substance which there is a lesser quantity is the solute

Solutions from A to Z Put name on worksheet
Please answer on the table provided Part 1: Answer in table 1: What is the type of solution? (Solid in a liquid, liquid in a liquid, gas in a liquid etc.) Part 2: Answer in table 2: Which one is the solvent and which is the solute in each solution Worksheet to be collected
