Please take out a writing utensil and a piece of paper. Write down numbers 1-5. Let’s practice applying our knowledge of poetic, literary devices, and figurative language. Name the device or form of language used in each example.

How many stanzas are in the poem? How many verses per stanza? Please get into 8 equal groups You will need a piece of chart paper, marker, the poem, and your devices notes.

Carefully read your assigned stanza as a group several times. Identify any poetic or literary devices within by underlining and making notes on your poem. Explain what effect or purpose the devices serve. Make a concise note on the chart paper outlining your findings.
