PSTN/ISDN Emulation
Intended to provide the current services to PSTN/ISDN users with an unchanged presentation
PSTN/ISDN emulation sits within the context of the same NGN Transport, Resource Access Control, Network Attachment and Common Functions.
A functional architecture to express the relationships with NGN functions is being developed which does not restrict implementations

4. Possible Functional architectures
Suggestions so far
Use IMS functions as Functional Entities to model PSTN
Use Softswitch and Media Gateway components
Could also start from IN and ISDN functional models

5. Subsystem specific requirements
Provide essential services required by regulators
Comply with New Framework directives including Privacy and Data Protection
Maintain functional splits required by regulation of PSTN and ISDN
Maintain Interconnect to other networks
Provide a path for graceful migration of PSTN to NGN
Maintain services based on IN
Maintain speech quality for real call mix
Continue to support legacy terminals
Allow users to benefit from NGN services
