Warm up Directions Pick up a book from the shelf and read it for 5 minutes (I will set a timer). After the timer goes off: write down which pages you read in the Tuesday slot on your warm up sheet(Pages 20-25). Create a “double entry journal chart” in the Tuesday slot like the one below and fill it out. Quote & Page # Explain quote choice Page 20- “I am not worried, Harry,” said Dumbledore, his voice a little stronger despite the freezing water. “I am with you.” I chose this quote because I thought it was really interesting how Dumbledore feels safe with Harry.

Objective & Homework Objectives: I can be a thinker while I read and analyze a story with literary elements. Homework: A change in perspective short journal Due: Friday September 16th

A change in perspective short journal
Pick your favorite (school appropriate) book or movie. Choose a character that is not the protagonist (main character) of that story. Pretend you are them after an important event in the story and write a short journal entry (10 sentences) about their perspective of that event.

Agenda Warm up, Objective & Homework Conflict Making an inference
Thank you M’am Reading Jigsaw
6
Types of Conflict External- a character’s struggle against an outside force. For example, a character may struggle against nature or against another character. Internal- takes place inside the character. For example, a character may struggle between wanting something and knowing that taking is wrong.
7
Making an inference When you make an inference, you use your reason and experience to guess at what the writer doesn’t say directly. Combining clues in a passage with your own knowledge helps you understand what characters are feeling and thinking.
8
Jigsaw Directions As you read: Fill in the chart and/or answer the questions on the worksheet based on your assigned letters. Once you are done reading and answering your questions. Share your answers with your group so that everyone can complete their worksheet.
