3
Producers are organisms that can make their own food using air, sunlight, and water
4
Photosynthesis Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants make their own food using the sun’s energy, water and carbon dioxide.
5
Photosynthesis CO2 + H2O + sunlight O2 + C6H12O6
*Formula for photosynthesis: CO2 + H2O + sunlight O2 + C6H12O6 = Oxygen + Glucose Carbon Dioxide + Water + Sunlight

9
Consumers: Consumers cannot make their own food.
*Consumers are organisms that must eat other organisms (plants or animals) for their food.
10
Types of Consumers Consumers come in all shapes and sizes and eat very different things.
11
Herbivores *Herbivores are plant-eating consumers.
12
Carnivores *Carnivores are meat-eating consumers.
13
Omnivores *Omnivores are consumers that eat both plants and animals.
14
Scavengers *Scavengers are consumers that eat dead plants or dead animals (carrion).
15
*Levels of Consumers Primary (1°) Consumers = “first eaters”
Secondary (2°) Consumers = “second eaters” Tertiary (3°) Consumers = “third eaters”
16
Who is the Primary Consumer?
Who is the Secondary Consumer? The Mouse is the 1° Consumer (he ate the corn/plant) The Cat is the 2° Consumer (he ate the mouse)
17
Quaternary 4° Consumer Tertiary 3°Consumer Secondary 2°Consumer Primary 1°Consumer
