2 What is Geography? There are two major divisions (branches) of geography: Physical Geography: The study of how that earth’s natural features vary from place to place. (surface of the earth) Includes the study of mountains and plains, weather and climates, plants and animals, and water resources, etc.

3 What is Geography? There are two major divisions (branches) of geography: Human (Cultural) Geography: The study of how people and their activities vary from place to place. (people of the earth) Includes politics, economics, culture, ways of life, clothing, history, religion, and language

What is Geography? Examples of Physical Geography Meteorology The study of weather. Cartography The study of map making. Geology The study of the history of the earth thru rock formations. Astronomy The study of planets, stars, and other heavenly bodies. Zoology The study of animals. Botany The study of plants and plant life. Volcanology The study of volcanoes.

What is Geography? Examples of Human Geography Economics The study of economic systems. Medical The treatment of illnesses and diseases in humans and animals. Religion The worship of a higher being Culture A peoples way of life Language The ways of communication between people. Politics The study of systems of government. Population People, density, patterns, and trends
