5. Year 10s – Have you got what it takes to become Young Mayor of Newham?
The main role of the Young Mayor is to represent Newham’s young people - regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, class or sexuality – and promote their interests to the council, businesses, the wider community and other public service providers such as the NHS.
The Young Mayor meets regularly with the Mayor, councillors and council officers. He or she is the visible face of Newham’s young people – attending civic events, consultations and events outside the borough – meeting people and giving speeches. The Young Mayor is assisted and advised by the Young Mayors team, who sit in the Mayor’s office. They will set up meetings, draft speeches and help him or her to write letters and to carry out his or her projects.
