1 Unit 1 Getting Ready Part II
By Mrs. St. Clair

2 Writing an equation given two points
If two points are given, use the POINT-SLOPE formula. Step 1: Find slope using slope formula: m = 𝑦2 βˆ’π‘¦1 π‘₯2 – π‘₯1

3 Step 2: Replace slope in y = mx t b Step 3: Solve for b (y intercept)

4 Write the equation of the line

5 Your Turn:

6 Think/Pair/Share

7 Solving multi step equations
Ex. 1 4(π‘₯ +1) + 2 = 2(π‘₯ βˆ’1) Ex. 2 3(π‘₯βˆ’2) =2π‘₯βˆ’5

8 Your Turn: 4(2π‘₯βˆ’1) = 3π‘₯ +2

9 Absolute Value The absolute value equals the distance between any number and zero on a number line.

10 Your Turn: Find the absolute value of -6.

11 Finding a solution to the equation
To find the solution of an equation, replace the variables in the equation with their given values and check to see if the equation is balanced. Is (2, 3) a solution to 3π‘₯ – 4 = 10 ?

12 Your Turn: Is (0,1) a solution to 2π‘₯ +5𝑦 =5?

13 Domain and Range Domain: the x values Range: the y values Ex. 1 Find the domain and range: 𝑦 = 3π‘₯ +4

14 Your turn: Find the domain and range
Input output 13 -5 15 -10 17 -15

15 How many lines of symmetry?

16 How many lines of symmetry?
Pg 2 Number 11 Part C

17 Additive Inverse and Multiplicative Inverse
Additive Inverse is any given number with its opposite sign. Ex. 1 = -1 What’s the difference between absolute value and additive inverse?

18 Multiplicative inverse
The multiplicative inverse of a number is its reciprocal. Ex.1 The multiplicative inverse of 2/3 is 3/2. What is the multiplicative inverse of -3 ?

19 Solving the equation for x
