Introduction The unification of Germany and their increased industrialism altered Europe’s balance of power By 1900, few parts of the world were left for expansion France took Morocco Italy took Tripoli (Libya) However, imperialism created rivalry between all of the European nations

Imperialism The drive for a dominant nation to conquer or take over a weaker, less powerful nation Britain was worried about Germany’s oversees drive and the construction of a navy France suddenly became willing to play down their competition with Britain in order to defy Germany

Alliances Germany, Austria, and Italy formed the Triple Alliance
France, Great Britain, and Russia formed the Triple Entente Militaries on the sides of all were growing Small Balkan states sought independence from the Ottoman Empire Serbia was one – which angered Austria The alliance system drug the entire continent into war Read end
