4 RATIONALE CROSS CULTURAL COMMUNI -CATION TERMINOLOGY DAWAH There are many people who speak English well, and who have good knowledge of Islam, yet they are unable to communicate effectively in English on Islamic subjects primarily because they lack the proper terminology to do so.

5 OBJECTIVES By the end of the program the participants will have acquired the following: An improvement of the Islamic English Language competence The ability to discuss Islamic concepts in English The ability to give short presentations on Islamic topics of their choice Reasonable knowledge of Islamic English terminology An awareness of the subtleties and importance of language sensitivity in cross-cultural communication Ignite the passion to use English communication skills for presenting Islam

6 Requirements & DURATION
Willingness to present Islam in its true light. Able to take part in a conversation on general topics. Possess a basic level of fluency in English Previous experience as a da’ee is not a must. Duration The program consists of a total of 32 hours 16 hours in class 16 hours working on projects outside the class This workshop may be offered as a 3 or 4-hour or 1-day workshop

Delivering On-the-spot mini-talk (Baseline filmed presentations) Burning Platform Scenario / Act The Communication Ladder (Team Exercises) The Jigsaw Exercise Tour Guidance Exercise (Poster Exhibition Hall) Reading Aloud (Visualization process) Analysis of Encounter Note: Participants and facilitators cooperate in learning & evaluation.

Responding to Misconceptions Why convert? Storytelling (Individual Exercise) Video Watching / Group Discussion & Presentation Attending a Short Lecture followed by questions Observing & Evaluating mini-presentations Delivering Final Presentations Note: Participants and facilitators cooperate in learning & evaluation.

10 Evaluation strategy The facilitators & participants conduct constant evaluation of the participants English language/communication skills using different Evaluation tools. The purpose of this evaluation is to determine if the participants are applying the communication criteria and what they have learned in the workshop
