Matter must be recycled in an ecosystem WATER CYCLE Includes processes such as evaporation, condensation and precipitation. Makes life on Earth possible.

3 CARBON CYCLE Animals release carbon in respiration and decay
Plants capture and store carbon in photosynthesis Dead organisms release Carbon into the soil and atmosphere for other organisms to use. Carbon is stored in fossil fuels and is released when they are burned by cars and industries.

4 NITROGEN CYCLE Nitrogen in the atmosphere is “fixed” by bacteria in the soil and in plants called legumes
