Everything you eat contains nutrients. Nutrients perform specific roles in maintaining your body functions. Your body uses nutrients in many ways: As an energy source To heal, build, and repair tissue To sustain growth To help transport oxygen to cells To regulate body functions

Carbohydrates Protein Fats Vitamins Minerals Water
Carbohydrates, fats, and protein provide the body with energy. Each gram of carbohydrate or protein provides 4 calories of energy, while each gram of fat produces 9 calories of energy. Vitamins, minerals, and water provide a variety of functions within the body.
