2 Creative Writing Prompts
Science Fiction/Dystopian Fiction Today’s Format: You will begin three different timed prompts today. I will provide “starting” directions and “literary” directions for each prompt. Your focus today is to explore how you would begin authoring each story.

4 Set 1 Starting Directions:
Choose your prompt. Starting Directions: For this prompt, you are to begin with a description of the setting surrounding the protagonist in that moment. Literary Directions: In your description, provide detailed imagery to help the reader experience what you’re imagining. What is the protagonist seeing, smelling, hearing, feeling, tasting?

5 Set 2 Starting Directions:
Choose your prompt. Starting Directions: For this prompt, you are to begin with dialogue. Indent each new speaker and dialogue section. Punctuate properly Reveal characters’ personalities though their words and your narration Literary Directions: In your dialogue demonstrate the use of italicized words to add meaning to the conversation.

6 Set 3 Starting Directions:
Choose your prompt. Starting Directions: For this prompt, you are to begin with a detailed description of the protagonist. Literary Directions: Include an example of a metaphor and alliteration in your writing.

8 Creative Writing - DAY 2 SET 4
1. The world has reached “Total Surveillance-Privacy Zero.” Every person’s “life feed” can be seen by all people every second of every day. 2. The year is 2035 and children have won the revolt. Publicly funded schools have been found unconstitutional. 3. After a long war, a new leader comes to power who completely controls the internet. Whatever she feeds the system, the population believes. 4. An extra hour occurs at midnight, but only a handful of people experience it. This is called the Dark Hour.

10 Creative Writing - DAY 2 1. Continue your writing by meeting each of the direction requirements. 2. When the first session ends today, you are to end with a conflict question. Examples: Will Ivan find a place to live his life safely? Can Eva create a way to clean Earth’s water? How will David organize the 9-year-olds? What happens when Ana’s time is up? Will Michael and his family purchase a new son?
