8 A long time ago, in fact thousands of years ago, ancient people looked at the sky and the stars, they looked at trees and grass, they looked at the sand on the beach, and they wondered…they thought … deeply…They came up with some ideas….do you know what we call the ideas that we have about how things work? [hypothesis – and what do we have to do once we have a hypothesis? Test it and prove it...]

What does an atom LOOK like? Start video at 2:49 – I would show parts of my body – Worksheet, part 1. Label the diagram. Part two, watch again and choose best answers. Check, Then part 3, rearrange the words to make a sentence, then move to next slide. What are the parts of an atom?

15 1. Neutrons are as heavy as protons.
2. The nucleus of an atom is positively charged. 3. The negative charge of an electron is equal to the positive charge of the nucleus. 4. In total, an atom is neutral.

16 An atom always has the same number of protons as electrons.

17 Have students come and circle Hydrogen and Helium
Have students come and circle Hydrogen and Helium. Ask what we could have made by adding another shell and one more electron and proton This Photo by Unknown Author is licensed under CC BY-SA

18 Where can you look to find the number of electrons and protons in an atom?
