Stormceptor Stormwater Quality Systems Update to Cold Climate Design, Use, and Installation
Presented by: Corky Lambert & Peter Van Tilburg In cooperation with the Municipality of Anchorage
2
Parties Involved Imbrium Systems / Stormceptor
Pacific Stormwater Consulting / Rinker D&S Concrete Municipality of Anchorage Streets/ maintenance group Inspection Engineering Design Project Oversight Watershed Management
3
Stormceptor Presence In Anchorage and surrounding cities:
117 – STC 450i’s (48” I.D.) 54 – STC ’s (72” I.D.) 26 – STC ’s (96” I.D.) 9 – STC ’s (120” I.D.) 5 – STC 7200’s (144” I.D.) 6 – STC Series 13,000-16,000’s (2-120” or 144” I.D.) An Estimated tons of Pollutants captured each year

Design Features & Operations
5
Stormceptor® Stormceptor designed for Sediment Capture
Fine Sediment Capture (1 to 1000 micron) Re-suspension prevention Validated by 2 University Tests Oil & Spill Capture Validated by University %
6
PCSWMM for Stormceptor®TM
Stormceptor is sized by a continuous hydraulic model. Anchorage Water Quality Objective 50 % TSS Removal of the 20 micron particle size 80% TSS Removal of the 100 micron particle size Whichever sizes a larger system Based on an ANC Rainfall station Drainage area (acres) Imperviousness (%) PCSWMM for Stormceptor®TM Basis of Calculations is a Combination of Physical Models: 1. Pollutant Build-up Model 2. Pollutant Wash-off Model 3. USEPA SWMM Hydrologic Model 4. Mixing Model 5. Settling Equations
8
Constructability & Flexibility
Easy to install One-inch drop between the inlet and outlet pipes makes Stormceptor: compatible with existing infrastructure ideal for retrofits and new development projects Multiple pipe inlets More than one storm drain can connect to a single unit, eliminating the need for additional structures Stormceptor can be used as an alignment-change structure No moving parts or filters to maintain
10
STC 2400 2-hole access (now standard)
11
Typical Sludge / Sediment
12
New Design! Double manhole access opening Sloped Floor
Vactor wand access points Hatch option for shallow installations Curb inlet double-access design (STC 750i)
17
Design Review Procedures
A Shop drawing will be created for each System prior to manufacture The Shop drawing will be reviewed by Streets maintenance Approved drawings will be necessary for construction on-site Access for Maintenance trucks will be provided – with and access road if necessary
18
Installation Procedures
19
Fiberglass insert pre-installed at D&S Concrete’s facility.
