2 Figure 1 Effects of an intrarenal phenol injection on blood pressure before and after nephrectomy. The line graphs show the levels of blood pressure before and after the intrarenal injection of 50 μL of 10% phenol or normal saline (control) in the left kidney. The injection was performed after the measurement of baseline blood pressure. Thereafter, blood pressure was measured weekly by the tail cuff method. After 4 weeks, both control rats and rats that had received phenol underwent left nephrectomy. *P < Values are means ± SEM. Reproduced with permission from35. 3 Figure 2 Effects of an intrarenal phenol injection on NE secretion from the PH nuclei before and after nephrectomy. The bar graphs show the secretion rates of NE from the PH nuclei measured by the microdialysis technique, in rats that had received an intrarenal injection of phenol, in rats that had undergone left nephrectomy (Nx) 2 weeks prior to the measurements and 6 weeks after the injection of phenol (Phenol + Nx), and in control rats that had received an intrarenal injection of saline. *P < Values are means ± SEM.
