Tell kids this is a picture of a turtle. The first sound in turtle is /t/. Kids should repeat sound. Have kids to give you a thumbs up for words with the /t/ sound and a thumbs down for words without the /t/ sound. Use these words: man, ten, bag, time, tap, moon, van, town, lamb, tan, taxi

Passage “Pets on a Mat” Before reading do a picture walk. Use page 10 of the My Sidewalk teacher’s edition. While reading give the students sticky notes, have them to identify the characters in the story; after reading have the students to tell you what happen to the characters.
