2 Gravity and the Solar System
The force of gravity holds our solar system together. Since the Sun is the most massive object in our solar system, it has the strongest gravitational pull. This is the reason that other objects in the solar system revolve around the sun.

3 Moons and Satellites Moons and manmade satellites revolve around planets. The moon revolves around Earth because it is much closer to Earth than the Sun. Even though the moon is smaller than Earth, the gravity of the moon is strong enough to pull the water in the oceans away from Earth. The water falls back toward Earth as the moon moves away. We call these regular movements of Earth’s oceans the tides.
