Basics Accurate, clear & detailed descriptions. Use Adjectives!
Positive statements only!! Questions are either about the performer or the performance. What’s the difference between these next two images?

Performance Questions
Overview of what’s happening in video. Watching how one particular performer behaves among other performers. General actions (e.g.) “He ran forwards towards the ball”. Where is the performer going? Where have they come from? What did they do? How was the ball, shuttle, javelin, opponent etc. affected by what happened?

Performance Examples Watch this piece of hockey action. Describe, in detail and in the correct order, how the highlighted player beats each of her opponents. Suggest, in detail, one improvement the highlighted player could make to his performance.

Performer Questions Focused on one performer’s actual body movements, NOT their general actions (e.g. he straightened his arm) Based on the individual, one performer only! Concerned with how the performer’s body, or body parts, are moving. Position of limbs, shape of body, velocity of movement etc.

Performer Examples This piece of action shows a boy throwing the javelin. Describe, in detail, three parts of the boy’s arm action. Describe the following parts of the girl’s sprinting action. This piece of action shows a boy performing a gymnastics sequence on the rings. Describe one thing done well in the pike position.

Types of Question Describe, in detail, three actions....
Describe in the correct order…. Suggest, in detail, an improvement.... Describe, in detail, one part of the performance that was done well….

Answering Questions Every question WILL include at least two of these in the answer: BODY PART ACTION DIRECTION or DESTINATION Every answer should have an adjective!!! YOU MUST BE SPECIFIC IN ANSWERS!

Common Mistakes Negative statements - “He/she didn’t...”
Vague general statements – “He went to the middle…” Non-Specific terms – “he passed it to the player…” Omission of direction – “She passed to the side…”

Exam Technique Read the whole question before the video begins.
Make sure when the video is on you are not writing. Only try to answer one or two points at a time, that’s whey they show it multiple times. Make sure your answers are accurate and make grammatical sense. Be specific in your descriptions.
