Welcome – please dig out
Your notes for a little review A great film and Then our digestive system Castle lng quiz.
3
Welcome – please dig out
Your notes today we finish Them up and do a castle Learning quiz.
4
The Digestive system – goal
Is to get nutrients(Good stuff From food) into a liquid form (Soluable) so it can be Transported by blood to cells
5
Ingestion – taking in food.
6
Digestion begins in the mouth
With the teeth grinding, Cutting, tearing food = Mechanical or Physical digestion.
7
Chemical digestion also
Begins in the mouth with The salivary glands releasing Saliva which breaks down Starch using the enzyme Amalyase.
8
Esophagus – tube that connect
The mouth and stomach. Peristalsis – muscular wave Like contractions that move Food, occurs in the esophagus Stomach and both intestines.
11
Stomach – muscular sac, both
Chemical and mechanical Digestion occurs here. Chemical – gastric glands of Stomach secrete HCL and Gastric protease – enzyme, Breaks down proteins
17
Small intestine – most Chemical digestion occurs Here.
22
Villi – finger like projections of
The small intestine, this is Where absorbtion of nutrients Into blood Occurs.

25
The passage of end products
Of digestion into cells is ABSORBTION
26
Liver – secretes bile which is Stored in the gall bladder and
Released into small intestine To break down fats = Emulsification. .
29
Large Intestine –Major function
Is to reabsorb water.
30
Undigested materials are then
Excreted = egestion
32
GI tract = gastrointestional
Tract, one way digestive tube. Hydrolysis – large food particles Are broken down using water. Pancreas – secretes digestive Enzymes into small intestine
34
Nat Geo – digestion 5 min.
35
Nutritional digestive info.
Carbohydrates – major energy Source.(made of simple sugar = glucose) Cellulose = roughage, Fiber, helps Move food through GI tract, Ex. = lettuce, grains, fruits
36
Carbohydrates and proteins
Are to big to pass through The cell membrane. They Must be broken down into – Simple sugars = carbohydrates Amino acids = proteins
37
Starches are also to large
And must be broken down – Digested into simple sugars.
38
Proteins – growth and repair,
Broken down into amino acids Which are used to make human Proteins. Fats – energy & need to form All your cell membranes Saturated fats – bad for Cardiovascular system. Found In animal fat =cholesterol
39
. Disorders Ulcer – sore in stomach lining
43
Constipation – too much water
Is removed from large Intestine.
44
Diarrhea – not enough water
Is removed by Lg. Intestine Appendicitis – inflamation of Small pouch at beginning of Large intestine.
46
Gallstones – hardened Cholesterol deposits, may Block the flow of Bile_ .
