2 WHY Do We Assess General Education?
SACSCOC: Core Requirement 8.2.b General Education Rationale: This standard ensures that general education competencies are specifically addressed by establishing expected learning outcomes, assessing these outcomes, and providing evidence of seeking improvements based on the findings. This Core Requirement establishes 2 key principles regarding general education courses: Is based on a coherent rationale General education courses are college-level and comprise a substantial component of each undergraduate degree. 3 WHY Do We Assess General Education?
SACSCOC: Core Requirement 9.3 Educational Program Structure & Content Rationale: The institution requires the successful completion of a general education component at the undergraduate level that: This Core Requirement establishes 3 key principles regarding general education courses: is based on a coherent rationale. is a substantial component of each undergraduate degree program for baccalaureate programs, a minimum of 30 semester hours or the equivalent. ensures breadth of knowledge. These credit hours include at least one course from each of the following areas: humanities/fine arts, social/ behavioral sciences, and natural science/mathematics. These courses do not narrowly focus on those skills, techniques, and procedures specific to a particular occupation or profession. 6 ASSESSMENT Data Preparation
Select Key Assessment Assignment (i.e. exam, written assignment, project, presentation, etc) Collect the results (scores) for this assessment, Each Assessment should be a evaluated using GE rubric (attachment). Rubric scores from 1 to 4. Use the percent conversions listed under the rubric to obtain the rubric score for each student. Calculate the percentage of students in your class who have earned a 2 or higher. Insert your results/findings using the following exact language Ex. At least 70% of the students completing the Position paper are expected to score a 3 or higher on the evaluation rubric in CSCJ215) Office of Planning, Assessment and Institutional Research
