William Golding... Lord of the Flies, was published in England in 1954. The idea came from a children’s story about an island coupled with Golding’s war experiences.

Author Notes:William Golding
Golding was born in Cornwall, Great Britain. He went to college at Oxford and started out as a natural science major before changing to English literature. He worked as a actor, writer, producer, and school teacher.

William Golding Golding joined the British Royal Navy and was involved in WWII. His experiences in WWII gave him the idea to write a book about human nature and evil. He won the Nobel Prize in 1983

A brief synopsis... British schoolboys are stranded on an uninhabited island after a plane crash. Island whereabouts unknown. During a fictional nuclear war (not WWII).

…If you over think this story. Don’t think about all adults dying and all children alive. Don’t think about where they were flying. Don’t think about the island location.

Lord of the Flies You will have 2 quizzes on each set of chapters. Comprehension and then Analyzing (essay format). You should read approximately 10 pages a night to keep up I have a Close reading guidelines on my website. I will collect your books to grade the annotations. Comprehension quiz is on Thursday you will get with your group to complete the Close Reading for 2 chapters. Friday you will complete the close reading for the other 2 and have the essay quiz. You will be allowed to use your book on the quiz to jog your memory.

Each of you should receive a copy of the worksheet- there are 2 sides! Enter the website at the top of the worksheet.( Click The Story on the top right of the screen. Pause after each page and answer the questions. Each question should be answered in paragraph form. You will create a new google document to answer each question. Make sure to submit the document to google classroom. You may work with your partner to research and answer the questions.
