7 Free speech– The individual can:
Say any political belief Protest (without getting out of control) Say things about someone that are true Burn the flag Say racist and hate slogans Free speech means someone might say something you disagree with

Threaten to blow up airplanes, schools or the president Put people in danger Sexual harassment Extremely crude language in a public place Disrespectful, vulgar language in schools Hate crimes

Print any political position Make fun of people, especially politicians Libel– intentionally injuring a person’s reputation by false facts

Protest peacefully Parade (with a permit) Protest by throwing rocks and breaking windows Hang out on private land against owners will—loitering

Citizens can make requests of the government by writing their leaders or by signing a petition. This allows them to show their dissatisfaction with a law or to suggest new laws.

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed.”

20 Third Amendment The Government cannot force you to shelter soldiers in your home without your consent in time of war or peace.

22 Fourth Amendment What does a policeman need in order to search your home? A warrant given to him by a judge Probable cause is also needed

25 Fifth Amendment You must have due process of law before you are convicted You cannot be tried for the same crime twice—called “Double Jeopardy” You do not have to testify against your self. “I plead the fifth”

27 MIRANDA RIGHTS You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to have an attorney present during questioning. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand these rights?

29 Seventh Amendment guarantees the right to a jury trial in civil cases

30 Eighth Amendment No cruel and unusual punishment No excessive bail
The punishment must fit the crime

31 Ninth Amendment People have more rights then are listed in the Bill of Rights

33 Tenth Amendment States have rights too. Taxes Schools Marriage

34 Sure, Congress has lots of powers, but those not listed in the Constitution belong to you!
