1 THE COLLECTION For this project you will be collecting a material or object of your choice.

2 You will start collecting objects THIS week and have two months to collect 100 of these objects.
We will then use these objects to create an art piece and display it in a student show at the beginning of April.

3 The objects themselves do NOT have to be captivating or beautiful or unique. One toothbrush is boring, however 10,000 toothbrushes have the potential to be awe-inspiring. The way you organize your collection could be the way the objects are transformed. What creates value and how can you, as the artist, shift the perception of objects?

7 Decide what you will collect by NEXT Wednesday- Jan 27th
Decide what you will collect by NEXT Wednesday- Jan 27th. Look at the routines in your life. Is there a small object that you can collect from your everyday routine? Is there something from work, from school, from your refrigerator? Maybe you pick up something on every walk to school or you keep every gas receipt. It may be something you normally throw away or recycle.

12 Tony Cragg found materials, discarded construction materials, and disposed household materials. In 1978 he collected discarded plastic fragments and arranged them into colour categories. Use of the wall. Collection has to do with reuse. So many objects in our lives we use and throw out. So many objects are part of out routine.

13 Joseph Kosuth Books become the structure not just the contents of the structure

14 As an Art student, one must be observant or one must be an "observer"
"Choosing is Creating" As an Art student, one must be observant or one must be an "observer" Part of this responsibility is to see the things that others usually do not see. Collecting: Go for a walk around campus and pick up things that you find interesting. Venture inside and outside. Objects must fit inside provided baggie. Be back in class, in a ½ hour from now.

15 Writing: Do not put your name on the paper.
Do not reveal the identity of your objects by naming them. Pick a few of the objects to write about. Describe the objects in detail. Use descriptive words or phrases without naming the object What makes these objects interesting to you? How are these objects connected? Would your objects be categorized as organic/natural, geometric/manufactured, or somehow both? Explain... •  Did/does the objects have a function? Explain. Please do your best to address any potential meaning behind the objects. Is there any symbolism connected to the objects? Either cultural or personal? A story?
