Are You Smarter than a 6th Grader?
By: Miranda Diaz, Denise Montes, and Priscilla Sanchez
2
Question Can adults pass a 6th grade level science test?
We picked this subject for our project because we thought it would be interesting to see if adults retain the knowledge they gained in 6th grade science. Independent variable Dependant variable Age range Adult’s scores
3
Hypothesis If you test an adult with a 6th grade level science test, then the younger adults will score better than older adults.
4
Materials Adults (variety of ages 17-50)
Tests (that summarize 6th grade science) Pencils
5
Method Create tests that summarize what we have learned so far in 6th grade science. Gather adults of different ages. Test subjects and see how well they do. Gather results of tests. Use data to create graph/chart. Come to conclusion of experiment!
6
Data/Graph Scores of different adult ages
7
Analysis Our experiment went very well. Our findings were what we expected. We found out that adults that are younger remember what they learned in 6th grade science more easily than older adults. This is noticeable in our graph. If you look, you can see that the scores slightly drop with age. Which means for example if you were to give an 18 year old and a 50 year old a test, then the 18 year old would have a better chance of getting a higher score on the test when the 50 year old might get a worse score.
8
Conclusion Our hypothesis was correct!
We concluded that younger adults get better scores than other older adults. Which means that younger adults that have been in 6th grade more recently, remembered the knowledge of 6th grade science more easily.

Question and Answers Q. Why did you choose this project?
A. We chose this subject for our project because we thought it would be interesting to test if the adults retain the knowledge they received in 6th grade science. Q. Who might be helped by the research you are doing? A. We are helping all of the adults because they will review what they learned in 6th grade. Q. Why is the research you’re doing important? A. Our research is important because it will teach us how age has an effect on someone's memory. Q. Has this research been done before? What were the findings? A. According to our knowledge we don’t know if the experiment has been done before though we are almost sure it has. Therefore we are unaware of their findings.
