1 JESUS STOOPS DOWN TO MAKE US GREAT.
MESSAGE: JESUS STOOPS DOWN TO MAKE US GREAT. THAT’S GOD’S GRACE

2 TEXT : JOHN 8:1-10 (NKJV) 1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.
2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.

3 TEXT : JOHN 8:1-10 (NKJV) 3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,  4 they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.

4 TEXT : JOHN 8:1-10 (NKJV) 5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?”  6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.

5 TEXT : JOHN 8:1-10 (NKJV) 7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”  8 And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

6 TEXT : JOHN 8:1-10 (NKJV) 9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

7 TEXT : JOHN 8:1-10 (NKJV) 10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” 11 She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”

8 Examining The Case Of The Guilty Woman
The Cast of Characters involved in this Case?

9 I. the SINNER AND HER GUILT
THE WOMAN AND HER SIN (V4) -This woman was caught in “the very act” of adultery

10 James 2:10   - For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. Romans 3:10 -  As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God,”

11 B. THE WOMAN AND HER SHAME
Sin is a shameful thing– -It is shameful when it is being committed. -It is shameful when it is a sin of the heart. -It is shameful when it is a sin in the flesh.

12 -It is shameful when it is done in the open.
-It is shameful when it is done in secret. -The sinner will always be brought to shame, if not before other people, surely before the Lord.

13 Proverbs 15:3 -The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good. Luke 12:3- Therefore whatever you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have spoken in the ear in inner rooms will be proclaimed on the housetops.

14 Numbers 32:23 -But if you do not do so, then take note, you have sinned against the Lord; and be sure your sin will find you out.

15 Matthew 7:21-23 21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.  22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’

16 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

17 C. THE WOMAN AND HER SENTENCE
Leviticus 22:10  -The man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, he who commits adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress, shall surely be put to death.

18 Deuteronomy 22:22 “If a man is found lying with a woman married to a husband, then both of them shall die—the man that lay with the woman, and the woman; so you shall put away the evil from Israel. Adulterous women who were betrothed were stoned to death, married women were strangled, and if the woman was the daughter of a priest, she was to be burned to death.

19 Romans 6:23 -For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

20 ACTS 4:12 -Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” ACTS 16:31 - So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

21 Luke 7:34 -The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’  Luke 15:2- And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.

22 Luke 19:7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, “He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner. Luke 15:2- And the Pharisees and scribes complained, saying, “This Man receives sinners and eats with them.

A. (V4-6) Their Shameful Scheme  B. Their Shocking Setback 1. How Jesus Reacted to them (v6) 2. What Jesus Revealed about them (v7- 9)

24 Matt. 12:  One day some teachers of religious law and Pharisees came to Jesus and said, “Teacher, we want you to show us a miraculous sign to prove your authority.” 39 But Jesus replied, “Only an evil, adulterous generation would demand a miraculous sign; but the only sign I will give them is the sign of the prophet Jonah.

25 III. THE SAVIOR AND HIS GRACE a. v9-10: How Jesus Confronted Her
V6. “ But Jesus stooped down…” -Jesus is a picture of His grace a. v9-10: How Jesus Confronted Her

26 b. v10-11 How Jesus Cleansed Her

28 Praise the Lord! Our God is the God Who stoops, and then stands again!
