A Ruler is used to measure both inches and centimeters. A ruler can also help you draw straight lines.
Measuring with a Ruler begin at zero even though it isn’t labeled on most rulers. Start with the first ruled mark, not the end of the ruler.

Objective: Find the perimeter of a polygon with integer sides
Inch (in.) (’’)measuring will be done on the side with the numbers that stop at 12. The little lines between the numbers are for measuring ½ and other fractions of an inch.
Centimeter (cm) measuring will be done on the side with the numbers that stop at 30. The little lines between the numbers are for measuring the smaller millimeter (mm).
