What is the Purpose of this Seminar
To consult with Volunteers on the future of Civil Defence. Civil Defence Branch is preparing a strategic document called ‘Towards 2030’ in line with the White Paper on Defence. ‘Towards 2030’ will set out the operational roles for Civil Defence in the future. White Paper on Defence Sets out Government Policy on Defence
Department of Defence & Defence Forces Chapter 9 – relates to Civil Defence Introduce the White Paper – sets out Government Policy for the next 10 years It includes all sections of the Department of Defence including the Military Chapter 9 refers to Civil Defence Each person has a copy - if you haven’t read it previously – have a read through it before submitting comments

White Paper on Defence 2015 The White Paper states that Civil Defence will continue to be developed to support the PRAs in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. Introduce the White Paper – sets out Government Policy for the next 10 years It includes all sections of the Department of Defence including the Military Chapter 9 refers to Civil Defence

White Paper on Defence 2015 While the White Paper recognises the long and proud history Civil Defence have in supporting local communities, it states there are limits to the support that can be provided. The White Paper considers the commitment and dedication of volunteers We need to ensure volunteers are not ‘burnt out’ Also – we need to ensure that in the event of an emergency – volunteers are prepared Not saying that Civil Defence stops community events, but rather consider the ones we do

Inter-Agency Guidance Team (IAGT)
Purpose of IAGT is to enhance liaison with PRAs and guide continued development of Civil Defence The members of the group include all relevant stakeholders The national volunteer rep. is a member of the IAGT Includes – Volunteer Rep

Next steps …. Following the consultation process a strategic document called ‘Towards 2030’ will be finalised. It will set out the strategic aims and priorities of Civil Defence. Stakeholders contributing to the process include Volunteers, CDOs, PRAs and relevant Government Departments/Agencies. By June 2019 – the Civil Defence Branch will produce a document which will include some outcomes of the consultation process
